Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls builds and preserves homes with and for people in need. We serve the counties of Minnehaha, Lincoln and Turner.
Studies show owning a safe, affordable home impacts the health of the family members, improves children’s grades, and leads to more successful long-term goals and dreams, as well as broadens the tax base in a community.
Our mission is focused on 3 programs:
Homeownership applicants participate in a stringent application process that takes several months for our Selection Committee to complete. If an applicant qualifies and is selected, they are invited into partnership. Homebuyer partner households must complete 300 sweat equity hours, including construction labor and homebuyer education classes, before they can purchase their Habitat home. Habitat finances our home sales, providing loans that are affordable for the homebuyer.
If you are interested in becoming a homeowner and struggling to achieve homeownership through conventional means, visit our Homeownership page to learn more about our program.
Homeowners interested in our Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) program also follow an application process. The condition of the owner-occupied house is surveyed and the preservation needs compared to the services we offer. The homeowner reimburses Habitat Sioux Falls for the materials and agrees to partner with the volunteers on work day. Visit our Neighborhood Revitalization page to learn more.
A third way Habitat supports affordable, stable housing is through our ReStore. We sell new and gently used building materials and home goods that have been donated by individuals and corporations. The store is open to the public and sells the items at about 30–40% of retail. Learn more about the ReStore.
We love our partner families, leadership and special build stories. Your sense of what Habitat means to people can only deepen through the words of some of our partner families and volunteers.
We joined the world of annual reports in 2016. We may have been late to the party, but we’ve enjoyed every minute since we arrived.
