Habitat Sioux Falls provides hands-on volunteer opportunities in three main areas: construction, NRI, and ReStore.
Construction involves all phases of new home construction with the exception of the features we subcontract like roofing and electrical. Please be aware our construction days are reserved for groups, but we do our best to accommodate individuals who want to work on new home construction as well. The shifts are Wednesdays 5– 8 pm and Saturdays 8:30–11:30 am and 12–3 pm. Groups can work one or both shifts on a Saturday. Click BUILD to sign-up and see the construction calendar.
NRI stands for Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. It’s like the curb appeal of a home. We paint, perform minor repairs and do some yard work. Consider it home preservation. The NRI schedule includes Saturdays, or a week day can be arranged based on the group’s needs. Click PAINT AND REPAIR to sign-up and see the NRI calendar of projects.
The ReStore offers two volunteer roles, cashier and stock room. Work in our ReStore, selling donated building materials to the general public. The three hour shifts are usually worked once a week, but can be worked once a month, depending on your availability. Click CASHIER to sign-up and see the cashier calendar. The stock room opportunity allows for more flexibility and includes receiving, repairing and preparing donated items for sale in the ReStore. Click STOCK ROOM to sign-up and see the stock room calendar.
Occasionally, we have opportunities for volunteers to serve in an office-clerical capacity. The jobs may include applying labels to envelopes for a mass mailing or data entry. Click OFFICE if you have some time and interest. When we have a project, we’ll generate a list of the volunteers, such as yourself, and contact you.
Habitat International provides quality Volunteer and Training Courses that can help prepare you for working at a Habitat site. You can learn safety techniques before you even arrive at the job site. Click hfhvolunteerinsurance.com, take the courses and receive a completion certificate!
