Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls is welcoming back limited volunteer groups for new construction and neighborhood revitalization shifts after the coronavirus shut down shifts in March. To comply with social-distancing recommendations, groups are currently limited to six volunteers per shift. Habitat is also not combining volunteer groups with other volunteers to fill shifts at this time.
“We’re fortunate that construction work is typically done in large spaces, often outdoors, where it’s easier to work 6 feet apart,” says Brittany Bandstra, volunteer coordinator for Habitat for Humanity in Sioux Falls. “Limiting group participants will help ensure physical distancing recommendations are met.”
Small groups of 6 or less are encouraged to reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator at 605-274-6292 or volunteer@habitatsiouxfalls.org. While we cannot accept individual volunteers at this time, individuals can reach out to friends and families to form a small group. Additionally, individual volunteers are welcomed to volunteer in our ReStore.
“If you’re looking for activities with close friends and family while continuing to social distance, this is a great opportunity to get together and do something positive for your community,” says Bandstra.
Additional safety precautions are being implemented on job sites during the pandemic, including:
In addition, personal protective equipment will be provided to volunteers, including gloves, eye protection, and face masks.
